Privacy Policy
Last updated October 27, 2026
Vocette is a voice journal for parents. You record short stories about your kids, in your own voice. Those stories are some of the most personal things a family has, so this policy explains plainly what we collect, why, who helps us run Vocette, and what you control.
In this policy, “Vocette,” “we” and “us” mean Tyler Ashton, who runs the Vocette app and vocette.app. “You” means the parent or adult using Vocette.
The short version
- Your stories are saved on your phone first. If you create an account, they’re backed up to private cloud storage only you can open.
- To write good questions, some details (like first names, today’s calendar event titles, and the text of what you said) go to the service providers listed below. Kids’ recordings are never transcribed or sent to the AI.
- Sealed stories stay closed until the day you chose, and are never sent to the AI.
- You can switch features off, and delete a story or your whole account, from Settings.
What we collect
Things you give us
- Account details. Your email address, or your Apple ID sign-in if you use Sign in with Apple. If you choose Apple’s “Hide My Email,” we get a private relay address instead.
- Your family’s details. Your first name, what your kids call you, and your kids’ first names, birthdays or birth years, and any photos you add for them.
- Your stories. Your voice recordings, the questions they answer, tags, notes, the photos you attach, seal dates, and the text transcripts of what you said.
- Kids’ recordings. In kids mode, a child can record an answer on your phone. It stays on your phone until you choose to keep it. Kept answers are saved with your story.
- Legacy contacts. If you add someone to receive your stories “if something happens to me,” we store their name and email, and their phone number and relationship if you add them.
- Messages to us. If you email support, we keep that conversation so we can help.
- The waitlist. If you join the waitlist on vocette.app, we keep your email address.
Things we collect when you use Vocette
- Calendar event titles and times, only if you link calendars. Never locations, notes or who’s invited.
- Photos from your library, read on your phone to show alongside your question. Photo locations are used on your phone to match photos to events. If you turn on “Let the AI help pick photos,” low-resolution copies of up to eight of the day’s photos are sent once each evening, and we don’t keep a copy.
- Usage counts. Simple events, like a question being shown, a story being saved, or a reminder being tapped, with the app version and a random number for your phone. These never include your questions, stories, names, photos or recordings.
- Notification tokens, so we can send the reminders you set.
How we use it
- To run Vocette: save and back up your stories, play them back, seal them, and send reminders.
- To write each evening’s question and follow-ups, so they fit your family and pick up where a story left off.
- To understand which parts of Vocette help families keep going, using the usage counts above.
- To answer your messages, tell waitlist members when Vocette is ready, and tell you about important changes.
- To keep Vocette secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
Who helps us run Vocette
We share information with these service providers only so they can do their part in running Vocette:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, cloud backup, database | Your account and backed-up stories |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Writes questions, follow-ups and kids’ questions, and helps pick photos | First names, ages, calendar event titles, transcripts and short story excerpts, and photos if you turn that on |
| Deepgram | Turns your recordings into text | Your recordings, if follow-up questions are on. Deepgram isn’t allowed to train on them. |
| OpenAI | Reads kids’ questions aloud | The text of the question only, never a recording |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, notifications, and turning event addresses into map locations | What each of those needs |
| Resend | Sends email from Vocette | Your email address and the email we send |
| Cloudflare | Hosts vocette.app | Standard web request information |
Sealed stories are never sent to the AI. Kids’ recordings are never transcribed or sent to the AI.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger, sale or similar change to Vocette, in which case this policy would still apply to your information.
Advertising and paid features
Vocette doesn’t share your stories, recordings, transcripts or photos with advertisers. If we add paid features, payments are handled by Apple through the App Store, and we don’t receive your card details.
Your children’s information
Vocette is meant for parents and other adults, not for children to use on their own. Information about children, including their names, birthdays and photos, and any kids’ mode recordings, comes from the parent and is controlled by the parent. A parent can review or delete it at any time in the app, or by writing to us.
How long we keep it
We keep your stories and account until you delete them. Deleting a story removes it from your phone and your backup. Deleting your account removes your account and everything backed up with it. Waitlist emails are kept until Vocette launches or you ask us to remove yours.
Your choices
- Turn off linked calendars, photos, the AI photo picker, and follow-up questions in Settings at any time. With follow-ups off, your recordings stay with you.
- Delete a single story, or your whole account, from Settings.
- Unsubscribe from the waitlist using the link in our launch email, or by writing to us.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by writing to support@vocette.app.
Keeping it safe
Your backup is stored so that only your account can open it, and other families on Vocette can’t see it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise that information will never be accessed without permission, but we work to protect it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and update the date at the top.
